In 1900 the whole family, however large it was, lived in this space of 300 square feet, divided into two rooms. On this end was a hearth where the wife cooked and where the family ate and socialized. The other end of the room was partitioned off into one or more sleeping areas.

The fireplace hood was sagging and everyone told us it had to be replaced.
